Healthy Snack: Powerballs

At my work, each afternoon, we have a tea lady who comes around and offers to make us a hot drink, and provide us with afternoon tea. One of the perks of working somewhere that has a kitchen. It sounds good doesn’t it?

But, it is actually quite evil.

Imagine, every day, someone waving in your face a delicious chocolate cake, or a choc chip cookie. How about a piece of muesli slice? It tests my willpower every day.

Must. Resist. Temptation.

So, I have discovered raw balls as a way of having something somewhat healthy for afternoon tea so I don’t feel deprived.

I’m calling them powerballs.

Raw Balls - Powerballs
Healthy snack – raw balls with hemp seeds, maca powder, dates, walnuts and agave

Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 3/4 cup hemp seeds (they’re a bit of a powerhouse of Omega 3’s, iron, a complete protein and more)
  • 2 cups dates
  • 1TB agave syrup (or proper maple syrup or honey)
  • 3 TB Maca (another powerhouse – good for hormones, and Natural New Age Mum says it’s good for libido too)
  • 3 TB coconut flakes

Method

Whiz it all together until it forms a moist crumble like texture, then form it into balls and keep in the fridge.

I’d say they’ll last in the fridge for about two weeks, and this batch made about 12 powerballs.

Alternative

Really, I think that so long as you have walnuts and dates, then you can add whatever you like, and I only needed to add the agave syrup to offset the dryness of the maca powder.

A colleague at work the other day made a combo of walnuts, dates and banana.
